Original Bathroom Walls

Hi everyone,
The original bathroom walls of our 1 BR condo unit look yellowish, and we are considering replacing/refinishing them.
- Does any one have an idea of what material the original walls are (e.g. cultured marble, acrylic, etc.)?
- Has anyone replaced/refinished/changed their bathroom walls with success?
Please can you advise, and possibly suggest how to make the bathroom walls look Spring fresh and newish?
