New building color options Empty New building color options

I think I mentioned this in another post. We hired another color expert who is not affiliated with the painter to give us her opinion on colors.

This is what she came up with. I can see potential in both.

Please stop by and take a good long look. I'm not sure my pictures are doing the colors much justice.

I prefer option two because it better emulates the original look of Villagio, which is supposed to be Corsican. The bottom color is completely wrong for this look because it goes for the cocoa instead of the beautiful pinks, which Corsica is famous for. I have other concerns: the foliage would be lost against a dark background, now that crime has risen in the area, it would hide easier for robbers to hide, (we've had one neighbor who came home to find that someone had tampered with his balcony doors in an attempt to break in), I don't think the columns in the driveways would look very good that dark and I don't think the water features with their slate tiles would look very good against a dark brown.

I have a concerns with the canopies being painted. After a season or two of rain, that paint isn't going to wear well and we're going to have cracked, peeling canopies and end up paying out more money in repairs. If the canopies are here to stay, then invest in the future by either buying new, metal canopies or re-canvas the old, especially since some are rotting. The original color of the canopies were more blue than green, but was in keeping with the Corsican look. Here is a traditional blue door in the pink wall: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/architecture-and-buildings/architectural-detail/707690-blue-door.php?id=707690

I do not like option one because it looks too much like all the other apartment buildings and homes going up, which are trying to do that California Mission look. It's very bland and I fear that with the new trim color the whole place will look rather pale and washed out. Also, this gets completely away from the original look and intent of complex, which is supposed to be the beautiful pinks of Corsica and the aquas of the Mediterranean.

You can see the original look of Villagio here: http://www.mve-architects.com/portfolio/pr/160_Villagio-at-River-Oaks

Please count this as two votes for keeping the original color and intent of Villagio emulation a Corsican Village.

It would help if a larger section was painted but I like both.

IMHO either set is fine.
I think perhaps I missed something...we are still in San Jose and not the Mediterranean?javascript:emoticonp('scratch')

haha....point taken. I spoke to the color consultant yesterday and she said something along the same lines. Our architecture is not really Corsican or Tuscan. She also made a few good points about why we shouldn't use the current colors and why she recommended the 2 options above. She gave a compelling case.

Hi Tom, first wanted to say you're doing a great job at fielding all the input. I think option #1 is a nice compromise. The dark brown in #2 seems too dark of a color. My two cents. Looking forward to the final decision and getting the work done!

Thanks for the compliment and feedback.

The consultant said that option 1 was a tuscan like theme made to be light (which is what the board expressed) but she gave option 2 as her personal preference because she felt our complex could "handle the colors". She also liked it for grounding the lower level and for the upper colors being slightly darker to keep it from looking dirty longer.

I had another conversation with her and gave the feedback from jean about our complex being Corsican versus Tuscan and she's going to come back with a 3rd option. We'll see what she comes back with.

New building color options Empty comming back with yet another new 3rd option????

Post  Italia Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:03 pm

I can't believe we are still pulling in new consultants and adding more and more and more options. I wish the board would make a decision and stop taking endless input for more and more options. It is wasting time and effort. Of the two NEW options this new color person has painted I think the lighter version works just FINE and sounds like those who gave input have agreed. Can't we just move with that and stop adding more options already??

Just so it's clear this "new consultant" was hired about 3 weeks ago. She's the one who proposed the colors in the photo's above. I think she gave us what we were asking for. Which was Tuscan Villa like. She knew we would prefer lighter shades but also offered the darker version which she personally preferred. There was another suggestion made about trying to keep the colors more Corsican like, which is what we asked from her this time. She's going to have a sample for us this week. I'm hoping that we can narrow things down to two, then ask the painter to paint a larger section of each theme so the board can make a final decision.

I know its taken a while but at the same time, it's a lot of money, it's a 10 year investment into the property so we want to take our time and do it right.

Take care!
Tom
