Mailbox theft at 475 - this is ridiculous

I cannot believe this issue has not been resolved after all this time. Due to my work schedule, I had 2 days of mail in my box that got stolen. I want to see some actions taken and I'm tired of Peachtree not moving faster. Stolen mail is a federal offense. It's somewhat scary during tax time that this is happening. I'm very upset that we have been reporting issues for over a year and NOTHING has been done.

I discovered this last night and called the San Jose Police Department. All the city can do is patrol more often. I called the Postal Inspectors Office this morning and the theft is now on record. They recommended that individuals fill out the form at postalinspectors.uspis.gov. It looks like you have to know what mail you did not received. I did not attempt to fill out the form.

Identity theft is a major issue. The postal inspector recommends redients get copies of their credit reports to see if there is unauthorized activity. The theft apparently occurred between delivery of the mail and 8:00 pm. I doubt if there is anything Peachtree could do unless the Villagio HOA Board of Directors can come up with a solution. Security cameras or private patrol would be costly and may not prevent future thefts. I am pissed but I think all we can do is keep an eye an out for suspicious activity.

I just talked to someone at the Post Office on Junction Ave. There is no theft!!! They left a sign but apparently blew off during the storm. Mail that was not delivered can be picked up at the Post Office. They said they will put up another sign and the mailbox will be repaired.

Yes, Christine at Peachtree just sent me a note. That's good news for us, but would still like to see the newer, more secure mailboxes go up as soon as we can. It's frustrating to have anyone of us go through this. For us it turned out well, for others they really did lose their mail.

As far as not doing anything, the board spent about $3k to install anti pry bars on the interior of the mailboxes, which is how some of the break ins accord. There were some thefts as far as I know, but those were done by thieves who had the master post master key. There is nothing the board or peachtree can do about that.

Yeah, no theft after all. The mail is being held at the post office until they fix the main door which should be early this week. I guess boxes like that can only be so secure. If someone is determined to get into it they will.
