EXCELLENT HANDYMAN

I have used Jacinto "Hoss" Viramontes, CA General Contractor license #937074,
telephone 408.807.0187, www.siliconvalleyhomerepair.com, as a handyman for my
home in Villagio and business. He is very competent, professional and honest. I
believe he does outstanding work and I recommend him to anyone who needs the
services of a handyman. Jerry

I have to second Jerry's comments about Hoss. He arrived on Saturday morning 15 minutes early ("if you're on time ... your're late!") and completed the two projects in one day instead of two days as originally estimated. Hoss modified the kitchen gas fitting so that my new stove would fit flush against the wall. The old stove had a larger recess allowing the extended pipe to fit; the new stove had a very shallow recess causing the entire stove to extend about 5 inches from the wall -- preventing my dishwasher door from fully opening. Hoss cut back the pipe so that it did not extend beyond the wall and he used a washing machine "surround" to give a finished appearance. At first he thought he'd have to cut out a large section of sheetrock, but with the "surround," he only had to cut out a very small section. No new drywall, taping, or painting was required.

My cost for the 4-hour kitchen job was $500* which I gladly paid -- especially since he didn't have to come out on Sunday to finish up.

EXCELLENT HANDYMAN Empty handyman

I used Hoss too per Jerry's recommendation!!! Yes, he did arrive on time and initially was very professional. Then he charged me $800 to paint my little dining room, told me it was going to cost me $1800 for a leak on the shower spout and charged me $25 because he said the hose on my spare bathroom toilet was leaking.

SO.......the $1800 for the shower (he was going to have to tear the tile out around it, etc, etc) cost me $20 for a small charger refill at home depot. Lucky for me, I checked the web first. The toilet never leaked before but it certainly did now. I had to have the toilet reseated as we thought that was a problem also. Ultimately, all I needed to do was replace the very same hose he did but with one that wasn't so cheap that it leaked!!

I then called the "very professional" Hoss and told him he might want to hone his plumbing skills as his $1800 job was really $20 and took me (a female with no plumbing skills) less than 5 minutes too fix. Not too mention all the toilet issues from his CHEAP replacement that never needed to happen in the first place. HE was very rude to say the least and he told Jerry Buten that he would never step foot in my house again.....guess it hurts to have someone call your bluff, especially a female :-)

I would never use him again, BTW three of my male friends thought his work sucked too!!

EXCELLENT HANDYMAN Empty Excellent Handyman/Additional Facts

Post  jerry Fri Feb 04, 2011 11:51 pm

I would like to add a couple of additional facts to Terry's comments regarding Hoss Viramontes. Terry's experience notwithstanding, I continue to believe Hoss is an excellent contractor. My belief is based on my personal experiences with Hoss and the feedback I have received from several others for whom he has performed work. When I worked for Terry, I also found her to be highly professional and fun to work with.

Terry's unit needed some relatively minor painting and bathroom repairs as part of the preparation for sale. I introduced Hoss to Terry as a recommended contractor. Hoss provided an estimate of $600 to complete the work. Terry accepted. After the painting was completed, an additional item involving the shower control valve arose. Hoss advised that he may have to cut into the shower enclosure and wall to repair the shower. He provided an estimate of $1800 for the work, if he had to cut into the enclosure and wall.

Terry and Hoss hit heads pretty hard over the estimate. Afterwards, neither party wanted anything to do with the other. I was not included in their communications, but from listening to both of their summaries, I understand the hard feelings.

Because I introduced Hoss to Terry, I believed it was my responsibility to resolve the situation to the satisfaction of both parties. Terry took care of the shower valve and the other bathroom items. Hoss had already completed the painting. I paid Hoss the $600 for the work he had completed. After escrow closed, I invoiced Terry for my expenses, including $300 for the work performed by Hoss. With the invoice, I included a note accepting responsibility for her unpleasant experience with Hoss. I also told her she could reduce the invoice amount by $300 if she thought it appropriate. Terry graciously paid the $300.

I am not sure why this situation happened. I attempted to resolve it to the satisfaction of both parties. I strive to conduct all my business activities in a manner consistent with the highest ethical and professional standards.

EXCELLENT HANDYMAN Empty Hoss' Estimate ...

Post  ghp95134 Sun Feb 06, 2011 9:05 pm

[Terry states] He provided an estimate of $1800 for the work, if he had to cut into the enclosure and wall.
Sorry to hear that Terry had an unfortunate experience.

When I first contacted Hoss and explained the work I wanted, he quoted $1800 IF he had to cut into the sheet rock and move pipes, etc; ours was a telephone conversation and he had not seen the proposed work. When he arrived to my unit and surveyed the job, he revised his estimate down to $500. I think that says a lot for Hoss.

My Husband and I have a couple of home repair project that need to be completed. Who will we call to complete these projects?? Hoss!
Hoss has already completed both major renovation projects and minor repairs in our unit. He is knowledgeable, professional, and his work is fairly quoted and priced. all projects were completed either on time or ahead of schedule. Hoss knows what he is doing and the quality of his work is unsurpassed. Hoss always follows-up and inspects his work. He repainted a wall for us at no charge because Hoss (not my husband or I) didn't like how the wall dried. For me that speaks volumes.

Congratulations to all that have had positive experiences with Hoss. Glad to hear that you were happy.

I stand by exactly what I said about Hoss and his work however, I would like to add that Jerry is the Ultimate professional here!!! He recommended Hoss, took responsibility but no sides and ate 1/2 the price for the work that Hoss did complete. While it was unfortunate that he felt compelled to do so I truly appreciated his professionalism and sharing spirit. He was a great realtor and I would recommend him should you need to sell your unit at Villagio.
