Hi Everyone!

In case you haven't seen. The painters applied the new colors that the color consultant and board came up with based upon the feedback.

My personal opinion is that we're on the right track. I like the body and base colors. The blue for the awnings and ironwork looks different in person than it does in the pictures. It also looks different on the cards then on the awnings. So I think we need to tweak that a bit. It's not popping enough for an accent but I think we're close.

I'd like to hear from you whether this is going down the right path. Perhaps we need to tweak the accent color but assuming that; do you feel you would like this combination?

I also want to point out that on the far right, where we had the darker shades for the body, you can tell that the new color looks a little yellowish compared to the left side. I believe that's because of the previous color underneath and the painter not using a base coat.

The blue in the pictures looks like teal?? That wasn't the intent. it was meant to be a certain shade of blue that in the swatches looked great against the other colors.

Please take a look at the colors in person before you vote.

I like the reddish brown awning color, it is a fresh look. The body and base colors also looks good, the pop-out color looks similar to the base though. A few more tweaks and we would be there!

First, thanks for all your effort, this has been a great process. I appreciate the opportunity to give feedback. I took a look at the colors today and yes in my opinion this is the right track. Looks great, personally, I like both awning color selections but the blue tops my list.

thanks for the compliment!

This is looking pretty positive. I'm not expecting everyone to love it but it's promising that all the votes so far have been positive.

Do you think the current blue is good enough or does it require a bit of tweaking in your opinion?

John - Any thoughts in which direction we should go with the red?

New color choices for building painting - includes new poll Empty painted awning looks dull

Post  john Sat Apr 04, 2009 11:36 pm

I took a second look at the turquoise blue and reddish brown color under sunlight, both colors look ok on the metal railings, however the painted awning looks dull. Even the dirty green canvas on the left brightens up the wall more than the painted one, and it is unclear if any paint color tweak(s) can achieve the brightness effect. Maybe the color/paint consultant can help?

Yea, that's a good point. I'll speak to the color consultant about it.

As previously pointed out by other fellow homeowners, if the awning fabrics are worn(and it appears some of them are), this probably would be a good time to replace them, just like last time. Painting the awnings appears to be costly temp fix(more paint and labor costs, on top of the eventual replacement costs). Any feedbacks from others?

I like the new colors but, I agree that the blue could be punched up just a bit.

Good job fielding everything Tom.

I thought we were going to adjust the current pinkish colors. This just looks like plain beige. I don't see any pink in them. I thought the previous pinkish/brown almost looked taupe and that was OK on the bottom. If we get new awnings, I still think it would be nice to have awnings and railings and the light fixtures all match the roof with green colors.

I just noticed that for the new polling, there were not any "no's". I voted "no", and I guess it didn't count it. The words that were used for the new colors was " updated of current colors", but like I said in last note, there are not any pinkish tones in these colors.

Hi,

The previous scheme had some pink in it. When we met with the color consultant last week we went over all of our previous options and the feedback from homeowners along with some observations. After a lengthy discussion on pro's and con's of each color scheme, what we like, what we don't like, and then looking at lots of different colors, we ended up going down this path.

Please try to hit no again. It should work.

Take care.

New color choices for building painting - includes new poll Empty Not sharp looking at all

Post  jeanmarlowe Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:40 pm

I thought we were looking for bright, crisp colors that made the building look young and updated. These colors are dull and almost dirty looking and make the building look old. They do not reflect the light very well. I think the idea of hiding the dirt by looking dirty is wrong - the only reason why our place looks so dirty is because it has been so long since it was last washed or painted. This color combination is too monochromatic and not very attractive. And that red looks like an industrial color used to hide rust. Even the blue is dull and has no depth. Everything just looks tired.

I prefer the previous cream you had before - you can see it midway on the second floor, where the new paint colors do not cover the old (look towards the middle of the second story window). It's brighter and clean looking. From that middle second story window down, the building looks dull and dirty.

If you have time, take a look at the Sycamore complex at North Park - (http://www.rental-living.com/Northpark.aspx) - the cream is nice and bright and the grey base is very nice and the whole effect is very clean looking. It's even better looking in person, but still looks good in the link. consider that the grey will hide the dirt and the creams will brighten the complex up.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for the feedback.

I think what you call "dull and dirty" is calm and soothing to others. I don't think this looks dirty at all. In fact, it should look better for a longer period of time than the colors we have. I do agree that the red and blue are not right.

I'll pass on your feedback to the rest of the board, in case they don't read it themselves. I'll also check out the link.

Take care!

New color choices for building painting - includes new poll Empty dull color

Post  wazotinker Tue Apr 07, 2009 2:27 am

I would have to agree with the dull color comment. Don't get me wrong, the new color looks nice but it is not very unique. I'm not sure about other owners, but the reason that attracted me to this wonderful community is the European villa look and the color that went with it. Friends that came over to my place the first time usually give comments like "is this place new?"

Another thing to consider is the way it looks in the day time as well as at night. Our current color scheme is what separates us from the apartment rental places because we're unique! We're different! Why would I want our beautiful community to look like rental? If we're to pick references, we should find examples from Italy Smile (yes, I know it's hard to find ... hence, it's easy for people to make references to existing buildings around us If I find some, I'll post them here.)

I vote to stick with our existing color or if we do change colors, don't deviate too far from it.

Oh yeah, a question that's some what related: when is the next owner's meeting? Smile Just curious~

You say it looks calm but I find it depressing. I'd rather have bright and cheerful. Everything looks nondescript. That bottom color looks like clay silt and the top color value is dull. Together they make bland. Bland is a downer. In full sun these colors are going to look dull when compared to the previous main body color. I want the buildings to sparkle and I believe they can with brighter colors. The reflective quality of the buildings should be accounted for since we are in the sun more often than not. Just look at the color of our new decks, they reflect a greenish yellow that I am not sure was intended. In any case, it doesn't look calm and soothing.

What do you mean by looking better for longer periods of time? Are you talking about maintenance? The green pollen that gets dumped every year is going to show up unless you paint the buildings green. The mold will show up no matter what. Are you talking fashion? These colors don't look very fashionable to me and I see a lot of buildings. Can you point to these colors being used at large elsewhere successfully?

Thanks for listening.

New color choices for building painting - includes new poll Empty Color Choices

Post  trebor Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:08 pm

Sorry to say but I have no idea what the "new" color choices are! Someone from the Board needs to have a showing with us residents and explain what the choices are. I look at the painted buildings and without a "map" or at least a numbering system I cannot figure out what the constitutes a color combination. I cannot be the only one!!!!! Without an explanation I vote we maintain the original colors.

I can tell you that I prefer the "whiter" stucco and the bluish awnings but again I have no idea what goes with what!!

New color choices for building painting - includes new poll Empty new body color looks yellowish and depressing in overcast days

Post  john Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:46 pm

This color thing is tricky. On a rainy day like today, the main body color looks yellow and depressing. The saving grace is, in the rain, Elan with its modern colors looks even more depressing than our new color scheme. Very Happy To me the original color scheme, even with dirt and age and ugly pink, looks better in comparison. Maybe we should freshly paint a section with the original colors side by side with the new colors for a fair comparison?

I thought I posted this a.m. but something went awry. It is not clear to me what the color schemes are. Can someone group them by a number or letter so we can have Choice 1 etc.
I like the blue awnings and railing with the whiter white for the main walls after that I have no idea of what goes with what.

Hi,

You did post this morning. I see the post above.

The only thing we are asking is whether the current scheme (which are in the pictures at the beginning of this thread) are going down the right path or not.

So far the vote is 12 to 6. I'm hoping more homeowners chime in.

Hmmm, i'm not really feeling the latest color combo, the main body color is OK, and i understand the blue is not final (needs to be brighter, more 'pop') but something about the base color just looks dull & washed out. I liked some of the older color combo's more, but was worried about some of the darker browns giving a gloomy look. I think its a great idea by john to paint a section with fresh 'original' colors to compare, i think that would look great with a brighter blue on the awnings/ironwork
It sure is a tricky decision, i don't envy you that decision!
Will the doors/garage doors be getting new paint too? If so, any directions on color for those?

I think change is scary for most people. So instead of having an open mind and trying change, people want the same thing. I think I've said this before...The 1980's colors NEED to go! I WANT CHANGE! Give me browns, give me grays, anything but pink and teal.
